“Spring Awakening” - The Art Wearable Flowers
As spring rapidly approaches and the flowers begin to bloom, we welcome projects that remind us of the coming sunshine and colorful days. After a cool Florida winter I was excited to welcome the heat and get my hands on the gorgeous florals that grow this time of the year. When preparing for this spring creation I kept in mind that the pantone colors selected for 2021 are grey and yellow. It being spring, the flowers selected not only had to be yellow to welcome the season and highlight the fashion color, but they also had to be spring flowers. With the florals selected and the weather taking a turn for the colorful, the project was put into action to create a Spring Awakening.
As most projects involving my larger floral pieces do, preparation was done in advance when selecting a model, style, and designing the art piece itself. Though having a design in mind, I only worked on the frame before the shoot and the rest was orchestrated in the studio and on the model. This allowed for a fun and creative session with a one of a kind floral composition. The process took a day of studio work to ensure that the piece was created to compliment the model as well as capture the essence of spring in a set of high end photographs. For this concept I opted for a vegetative floral arrangement that mimics the natural growth of flowers. With a natural and intricate design the piece represents the flowers this spring and the ideal of blooming bright and tall this year. Delicate can also mean strong and beautiful; and this idea is what flowers convey.
While the work may be long and weary, art reminds us that there are a multitude of ways in which we can express ourselves. As my work is in designing and creating personalized pieces, wearable floral arrangements can add a bit of fun, exciting, delicate, or even wild and carefree aesthetic for my clients.
