Great stories have a way of staying with us, and what better stories than those of Greek Gods and Goddesses? There are many styles and traditions that still linger today in the arts; one of these being Greek history and mythology. We learn about Greek history to better understand the past, and include it in literature, artwork, fashion, etc. to celebrate its beauty in the present. I loved the idea of incorporating this style in a floral project while working with a client. I created a floral concept that allured to the traditional Greek wardrobe and colors while adding my own designer twist. Bringing this vision to life included the work of a wonderful creative team that together captured the desired concept we had in mind.

In the designing stages, I focused on the colors typically used in Greek history and mythology and how to best represent these with florals. Using the garland often depicted in Greek artwork as reference, my design included white and green flowers as the main and only colors. This helped ground the artwork with the desired theme. A hair piece was designed for the client as a modern wreath that was only placed on the left side of the hair rather than a traditional circular garland that goes around the whole head. This allowed for a soft and feminine design that could also be worn as an accessory for a night out while also styling perfectly for the “Greek Goddess” shoot.

My inspiration for the body florals came from Greek artwork and mythology where the female body was highlighted as a form of empowerment. The goal was for the final photographs to capture the design and overall work as a modern take on popular Greek sculptors and paintings. White fabric was included as an addition to the design though it was not a necessary. The flowers selected were soft and feminie enough on their own to capture the essence of the desired theme. They were also the right tone to go with our clients long black hair!

Floral designs such as these are typically sketched and worked on before they are worn and/or modeled by the client, but they are almost always tweaked in person and adjusted for the best results. This design called for the florals to be placed along natural body lines while sculpting the female form in order to highlight these areas and compliment the body. As always, this particular concept took hours worth of work but designs like these can be purchased separately in a timely manner. If floral portraits are what you’re looking for, it will take more work as things are planned and catered to your concept and theme. And don’t forget, we are all goddesses!
