“Nature and Nurture”

We often go about our days in a trance, a sort of routine and set of engagements that keep us moving forward from errand to errand. We run through the city, taking in the buildings, cute shops, and delicious restaurants; our minds constantly focused on the things we have created for ourselves. It isn’t as often that we seek to explore the outdoors and the captivating vast terrains of nature. It is when we do so, that we start to notice the patterns in nature that so closely resemble our own bodies.

The way tree roots resemble our lungs, and our eyes resemble landscapes. Oftentimes, there is a sense of peace that is found when we reconnect with nature

and ground ourselves with the earth. This can be the case for some of my clients, and my job is to create a nature-based setting with wearable floral arrangements that capture this feeling of nurture and nature for photoshoots that create images with a story.

This past month I had the pleasure of working with a client who recently has started to feel more connected to earth and the gentle aspect of flowers and trees. After a consultation with her, we discussed how to best represent this softness with images and what the photoshoot setting needed to include. I opted for really vibrant green leaves to create the illusion of being out in a forest-like setting. These particular leaves have a soft silky look to them that encompasses the delicacy and tenderness in which we care for others and ourselves and were placed upwards in the studio to represent growth. For wearable arrangements, I created moss based designs for my client to wear on her hands to show the connection with earth and the idea that we are part of our natural environment. For the body, arrangements were created in a similar color theme but red tones were added in the form of flowers to represent blooming and becoming a version of ourselves that is gentle yet strong, soft yet fierce, a balanced spectrum. As always, you all know I love wearable floral headpieces and they have become a trait of my work thus far. For this theme I created a color scheme that was more grounded to the Earth, focusing mainly on maroons, dark oranges, and greens. Seeing it all come together did feel as earth-based as I intended and captured the story we were hoping to relay.

The client used the opportunity to take family portrait photos during this session with her two daughters as well. For them I made matching floral headpieces to bring them all together visually and further portray the nurturing nature of parents and the bond we build with our children and family.

It is creating these special moments that I know will last forever that make my job so fulfilling.

When we look at the natural way of our earth and its beauty we are rooted back to the peace of simplicity and how our environment provides for us and tends to us as we should be tending to it.

Next time you’re going about your day, take a moment to look around you and notice all the little things that make this world miraculous. And if you want to wear a piece of the world with you, make sure to contact me for a consultation of capturing your story with a specialized arrangement made just for you.
